Biography

Andrea is a former academic with a specialisation in English literature. Originally from Italy, he has degrees in modern languages, literatures and cultures and a PhD in English and comparative literature from the University of Warwick. He has recently moved back to the UK after living and teaching in Turkey for several years.

He has a decade's experience as a teacher, primarily in higher education, but also KS3 and above, including as a member of the Scholars Programme in the Brilliant Club. He can teach on any aspect of English, Italian, Spanish and French literature and culture.

Andrea's teaching focuses on helping students build mental maps that will allow them to approach any subject with confidence. Rather than helping you learn one thing, he focuses on helping you learn how to learn anything.

I believe that teaching, especially in the humanities, is about helping students want to learn. This can be done by finding out what your interests, skills and strengths are and building on those: if we build a basis of real interest (and it can be built), studying will be twice as easy. To do so, I like to be interactive, and, if you will, ask you to do a bit of self-reflection by assessing your strengths and weaknesses and where the specific difficulties may lie: that way, we can build a personalised plan to assess what to work on and how best to work on it.
